Using AI to generate a complete design system — tokens, components, documentation — and apply it directly inside Figma. Testing how much of the systems design process AI can own.

The Idea

Can AI build a production-ready design system from scratch?

Design systems are time-consuming to build. Tokens, component variants, documentation, naming conventions — it takes weeks. The question: how much can AI accelerate or automate this process, starting from nothing but a brief or an existing site?

This experiment will run the full workflow — from audit to token generation to Figma component library — entirely AI-assisted, and document what works, what breaks, and where human judgment is still irreplaceable.

Planned Steps

  • ✓Define scope — choose a target site/product for the system
  • →AI-generated token set — colours, spacing, typography, radius via Claude
  • →Component inventory — catalogue all UI components needed
  • →Figma application — apply generated system into Figma, make it editable
  • →Documentation — auto-generate usage guidelines and component notes
